Jazz4kidz Takes the A Train : A Family Concert

Get ready to swing and scat to the music of Duke Ellington as the Carolina Summer Music Festival Kicks off Jazz Day with an introduction to the great music and swing of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Festival vocalist Martha Bassett joins narrator David Ford, host and producer of WFDD's "Triad Arts up Close."

Admission: $5

The program includes "Soda Fountain Rag," "Come Sunday," "Sophisticated Lady," "It Don't Mean a Thing (If it Ain't Got That Swing)," "I Got it Bad (And That Ain't Good)," and "Mood Indigo," all composed by Duke ellington. Also included is "Take the 'A' Train", composed by Billy Strayhorn.

If you want to learn more about Duke Ellington, check out the wonderful book by Andrea and Brian Pinkney called Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and his Orchestra, a winner of the Correta Scott King Award and a Caldecott Honor book.
