The Carolina Summer Music Festival 2009

Welcome!

We’re excited to announce the second season of the Carolina Summer Music Festival, which runs from August 19-29, 2009, and features six diverse programs and twenty talented artists from throughout the Piedmont Triad.

Joe Mount, Jacqui Carrasco and Elizabeth Ransom, Co-artistic directors

Sponsored by the Carolina Chamber Symphony Players, the Festival will have its home base at historic Old Salem Museums and Gardens, and concerts will also be presented at venues around Winston-Salem, including the Reynolda House Museum of American Art and the Jon Kuhn Studio Gallery. Our concerts include something for all musical tastes, and we’ve kept ticket prices extremely affordable.

The 2009 Carolina Summer Music Festival kicks off on August 19 with a gourmet dinner and preview concert of jazz and tango music at the historic Zevely House Restaurant. Be sure to make your reservations early for this special event!

Acclaimed vocalist Martha Bassett and Triad jazz musicians return to the Carolina Summer Music Festival on August 22 for a concert celebrating the music of Rodgers and Hart. Our jazz concerts have been sell-outs in previous seasons, so for the first time, we’ve included two special sets for this program – one at 7pm and a special late-night opportunity at 9:30pm.

In conjunction with the “Heroes of Horticulture” exhibit at Reynolda House Museum of Modern Art, our “American Landscapes” concert on August 23 will feature music of late 19th century composers inspired by nature. On August 27, we’ll perform enchanting pieces for winds and piano, including Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music,” in the studio gallery of world-renowned glass artist Jon Kuhn. Featured in this performance will be the “Kuhn” Bösendorfer piano, a one-of-a-kind instrument that has been crafted in the Kuhn Studio in collaboration with the renowned German piano maker.

On Saturday morning, August 29, we present “Carolina Scrapbook,” a fun multi-media performance featuring the Festival Brass and a special guest narrator. The 2009 Festival concludes later that evening with “Tango!”, which highlights the passionate music of Astor Piazzolla.
